Join us on Wednesday, August 17th, at 6PM ET for a discussion about the imposter phenomenon. Zoom link will be sent two days before event.

Presenter: John LaVelle is Assistant Professor in Evaluation Studies at the University of Minnesota.  He teaches courses on evaluation practice, evaluation theory, and ways of conducting research on evaluation itself.  He researches evaluator education programs as well as the psychology of evaluators themselves, including values, ethics, and the impostor phenomenon.

Talk abstract:  The impostor phenomenon is a psychological construct referring to a range of negative emotions associated with a person’s perception of their own fraudulent competence in a field, or their perceived lack of skills and knowledge necessary to be successful.  Anecdotal evidence suggests many practicing evaluators have experienced impostor phenomenon feelings but lack frameworks to understand their experiences as well as forums to discuss them.  This talk, which is based on empirical research by the speaker and contributors, will discuss the impostor phenomenon, apply it to the field of evaluation, and discuss strategies to mitigate it.
